Kickers in Bournemouth
One a very typical British summer day the Kickers reserve squad headed to Bournemouth to compete in The South West Futsal Tournament. Kickers entered the tournament with high hopes of being successful; however it wasn’t so easy with Kickers falling to defeat to futsal amateurs Brazilian Boys, quite convincingly at 5-2.
It was down to the final group game to decide the faith of Kickers with only a win seeing them through to the knockout stages, and that is exactly what Kickers achieved, with a strong defensive performance and a patient attacking approach Kickers dominated the game, however not converting their chances and only winning by 2-0.
When it came to the semi-finals, kickers were up against a rampant Chippenham United side who dominated their group lead by the England Futsal captain,. The first half was very tactical with neither side wanting to over commit, however goals did go in for both sides, with Chippenham United benefiting from comical own goals and errors and Kickers crawling back into the game with well worked equalisers with the score line finishing 3-3 at half time. However the story was the same for Kickers in the second half as the rest of the tournament creating many chances and not converting allowing for Chippenham United to stay in the game. Chippenham went on to make Kickers pay scoring a host of second half goals, leading to the drop of spirits in the Kickers squad and a break down in the team’s performance, the game went on to finish 8-3 to Chippenham united, They went on to win the tournament in a one sided final.
On a brighter note for Kickers, they were awarded the Fair Play Award.
